Echos of the Great Hamba

Chapter 1: A blessing and a curse

In the year of our Lord 1347, the once-thriving village of Enkare Nyrobi lay shrouded in the mist of a cold morning. The distant tolling of the chapel bell echoed across the thatched rooftops, summoning the faithful to matins. The white man had conquered most of the land, the fertile land and the natives became subjects, slaves. The war of Waiyaki had seen alot of natives die and surrender their land to the muzungu. Some of the natives maintained their status and wealth due to their collaboration. Amidst the haze, a lone rider appeared on the horizon, his cloak billowing behind him like a shadow fleeing the dawn. Lemayian Ole Kipkirui, the warrior. He had returned from the war in the east, the war of Kithitu between the muzungus and the Chagaa.
Lemayian, a Himba, graced from the house of Nasieku, a great warrior who lead her people during the war of Waiyaki. However, Nasieku had her own weaknesses. On the day of the treaty of the gikuyu on the mountain, she finally fell short to a young squire, perhaps aiding his lord in the treaty, Sir Richard Smith. He was a striking figure, tall and broad-shouldered, with a noble bearing that spoke of both grace and strength. The only person to be Knighted by her majesty the queen in a colony. She once described him as Oloiboni o lekirri; his deep-set, piercing eyes held a mysterious glimmer that could captivate any who met his gaze. She felt threatened by love but bore him of a child the muzungus called dirt but she saw it as a blessing, Enkai nanyie o nkera lelo and she named him Lemayian Ole Kipkirui.
