Women and Women Leadership

“Women should be given power to lead,”
has been a cliché phrase in the modern world. However, women are ground-breaking agents of change, and the expansive advantages of diversity and sex equality in initiative and dynamic are progressively perceived in all circles. In any case, women keep on being endlessly under-spoken to, in dynamic of governmental issues, organizations and communities.

The reason for coming up with this article narrows down to the 2020 international rural women’s day. Highlighted by Nation Media group, two women in Bungoma County gave me a different perspective towards my attitudes and belief.

Stella Sikuku and Jackline Khamisi, changed the narrative of the society showcasing their work rate. The ability to work in a quarry for 8-10 hours to provide for six children, now that is working hard. I am not disputing the fact that men can’t do the work, but it is time to pass on the baton and share the responsibilities.

It is so hypocritical how we want to live in a libertarian society and yet, we are still struggling with gender based violence, rape cases, gender inequality among others. In some of the communities in Africa, girls as young as 15 are given out for early marriages and through this, they are not capable of finishing school.

According to The Standard, about 17% of fathers have sex with their own daughters and that 49% of the population in the country agree that gender based violence is widespread. The eve magazine reported that at least 100 women were murdered in 2019 being entangled in violent relationships either with their spouses, bosses and even parents.

The way we think clearly needs to change. Conservatism made us underestimate the power of women in the society. It’s not going to be easy for change, it will not be easy to convince everyone that we need more women as head of state.

With the adverse progression brought about the pandemic, we have been able to project countries that have been able to manage the virus and tame it. Among these countries, some are female-led countries, i.e Germany, New Zealand and Taiwan that has shown the world the strength of a woman.

Since July, the highest number of cases recorded by Taiwan and New Zealand is 7 and 25 respectively. We all thought countries like the USA or the United Kingdom will be ahead of the game, but the leaders of the said countries were blinded by their own political agenda and this has led to death.

Angela Merkel. German Chancellor

According to the DW Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, was the first European leader to open up the economy in small scale. This is in comparison to Eastern European countries and also countries like Italy, England, France and Spain.

But back to the motherland in Kenya, we are in the midst of a constitutional drift and women have been put as a decoy. I hope that I will live to see change, I hope that this constitutional drift, however the outcome women will be given a voice and I hope that I will live to see a woman head of state for the country.

“But while I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last,” that was part of the speech by Kamala Harris, vice president elect of the United States of America. Despite the shaky democratic era we live in, Kamala Harris in office shows a dawn of something spectacular to the USA and to the world.

Her representation to the state will surely mean a lot to women everywhere in the world. Despite the fact that she was born as a minority and a woman, she came up through the ranks as a senator for California and now, Vice president of the United States of America.

A strong woman loves inherently, a strong woman does not let the cattiness of other people bring her down. She is always willing to take care of others from the time she is a little girl to the day she passes. She loves. And never stops loving.

And hey! Remember, I am not a feminist, the world is just in a weird place right now and nothing seems right. I am just advocating for change.
